Eduardo J. Tapia of Lakeland, FL passed away peacefully on June 14, 2021 at age 82. He was born in Matanzas, Cuba to Juan Tapia and Patria Febles.
Eduardo attended the University of Havana where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the private and public sectors throughout his career. After 20 years of service, he retired as Director of Hillsborough County Stormwater Management Division in 2006. However, he continued to manage Tapia Construction which he founded in 1977. From a young age, Eduardo was a visionary leader and a hard worker. He was devoted to his family, friends, community, and God. He was always eager to assist anyone in need. Eduardo had an exceptional ability and desire to inspire, motivate, and help others. He was the family “godfather”. He worked diligently every day of his life because he wanted to give back to the community that had embraced him. He was an Eagle Scout, president of the Lakeland Hispanic Club, an active member of The Church of the Resurrection, and was involved with numerous other organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Zenia Cristina, daughters Zenia Maria (Zenon), Jacqueline (John), Patricia (Louis), brother Alfredo (Maria Rosa), grandchildren Nicholas (Dee), Richard, Francesca, Alyssa, Adam, Dean, Rose, Gabrielle, great-granddaughter Morgan, cousins, nieces, nephews, many friends and godchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Terrace Way, Lakeland FL. Viewing at 10:30, Catholic Mass at 12:30, followed by burial at Oak Hill Burial Park.
