George Santell Thornton, 78, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at his home in Lakeland, Florida.
George was born January 23, 1943, in Wauchula, Florida to Ethel Thornton Faircloth and G.R. Thornton. George went to Wauchula High School and attended Lakeland Revival Center, where he met and married Martha Hathcock Thornton and had 4 children. He was a United States Army Veteran. George and Martha just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April.
George retired from Publix after 34 years as a grocery truck driver and after 16 years at Watkins Motor Lines/FedEx.
Mr. Thornton, is survived by his wife, Martha Thornton, 3 sisters and 2 brothers, daughter, Kim Ellis (Ron), son Mark Thornton (Esther), son Steve Thornton (Sheri), daughter Stephany Dickey (Fielding), and 13 grandchildren, Ronny Ellis, Steve Ellis, Chase Thornton, Stephan Thornton, Jantzen Ellis, Christian Thornton, Jorden Ellis, Holly Thornton, Fielding Dickey VI, Grant Thornton, Peyton Dickey, Karsen Ellis, Cameron Thornton, and 3 great grandchildren, Landon Thornton, Allie Jane Thornton and Emersyn Thornton.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 12 noon, followed by a celebration of life at 1 pm, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Family Worship Center, 1350 E. Main St, Lakeland, FL 33801.
